The Greek word ekleipsis means “being abandoned” or “disappearance”. It is related to the verb ekleipein, which is made up of ek (meaning “from”) and leipein (meaning “to leave”). Ekleipsis literally means “to fail to appear” or “to abandon an accustomed place”.
